Kapresun

March 4, 2010

Charlie had to pull an all-nighter last night to finish his english essay-exam thing, so around midnight, I went to walmart and got some snacks. I got whole grain crackers, string cheese, grapes, apples, and celery. I think that these snacks have tasted better to me than what I would normally eat for a snack, and I wonder why I don’t eat this healthier stuff all the time.

Spring break starts tomorrow, and it’s a good thing
Jiao is moving in on Sunday. I’m pretty sure that when I get home there is going to be another rush of cleaning before I actually get a chance to veg-out for the week.

Liz and I are teaching imrpov to my mom’s jazz band on monday morning, which ought to be fun considering I haven’t seriously improvised since high school… no but really, it will be fun.

i just want to move in

August 4, 2009

As I stepped out onto the practice field for day 1 of Port Huron Northern’s band camp, I realized that 3 band camps in a row is just a bit too much. It’s hard to show the enthusiasm I like to have when I’m counting down the number of rehearsals hours left until this camp is over.
Fortunately, a run to meijer with the other instructors cheered me up a bit and I now have fruit snacks, oreos, and gatorade as comfort foods to get me through this week.

I’m all set to move into my apartment in Mt. Pleasant. Seeing Charlie everyday is going to make me a much happier person. I’m also really excited about the idea of having board game/card game nights in my apartment with a handful of good friends.

I’m going to head to bed soon. I’ll have to remember to post some more details about Bad Axe and Vassar in an upcoming post.

Birthday post

July 22, 2009

I’m 20 today!

The first days of Vassar Band Camp have been just fine. We’ve already worked the drill through the end of the first song (18 pages). This year I’m working with saxes and mellos, and they are doing just fine. From the reports I’ve heard from other instructors, they might be doing the most fine.
I’m writing this while I babysit the boys hallway to make sure that we don’t have any girls down here.

In other news, my new tempur pedic mattress is greatly missed while i sleep on a crappy band camp mattress. I didn’t realize just how good it was at eliminating points of pressure on your body until i slept in the one here.

Tempus Magi

July 16, 2009

I’ve done some very nerdy things in my life. One of them being learning how to play Magic: The Gathering, another being owning many decks of MTG cards, and yet another reading some of the books. I always thought that they would be pretty lame, but Carter read some of the books and told me they were worth reading, so I gave them a shot. I’m now about halfway through the second book in the Kamigawa block and yes, I am enjoying them.

I’ve been experimenting with making Chinese food at home lately. Yesterday’s sweet and sour chicken turned out pretty good, but it needed a little more sour and a little less sweet. Today I’m going to try honey garlic chicken because it is something my mom thinks she might actually eat.

I ran into Tiff Snow yesterday at Walmart, and realized that I really miss her. We used to have quite a bit of fun together, particularly with board games. She has also been a confidant for me since before I was with Liz. Hopefully we can work it out to find some time to catch up.

maybe part of why I don’t sleep well is that I like thinking late into the night

July 15, 2009

Sometimes I am a hypocrite.
also,
Sometimes I am OCD.

So, maybe this is creepy, hopefully it isn’t… because I’m writing it here for anyone to read…. but I check some blogs many times a day. I really like hearing about other people’s lives, even some of the ones that I’ve never really known in RL. Is it, then, also weird that I get kind of annoyed when people don’t post a blog every couple of days or once a week? Sometimes I think that and then look at my blog and realized that the blog I’m annoyed with has a more recent entry than my own…….

just something I think about everyday when I check the blogs

The Harry Potter movie was pretty good, perhaps the best of the movies so far. Maybe even the most accurate representation of the book so far.

I find myself doing a lot of reading late at night, and I’ve really come to enjoy it. I’m finding that my favorite parts of the books I’ve been reading lately are the side stories that occur within a universe that the author created.

I don’t think i’m really getting everything out about a subject that i started in this post, so perhaps i will end here and try to get the rest out later.

and to whomever my 10-16 visitors/day are… good night

“The history of warfare is made up of moments… and decisions… that could have gone either way” -Erasmus

July 4, 2009

I don’t know why it is that I can’t sleep lately, it’s kind of frustrating. Last night I tried laying in bed starting at about midnight, and around 2 I was still lying there awake, so I decided to read. I stopped reading about 2:45 and I remember seeing the time at 4:35. I’m guessing I fell asleep shortly after that, but still… that’s ridiculous.

I’ll be in Jackson in about 5 days and 6 hours, which is pretty exciting… I think I’ll sleep a lot better in his arms.

Here I am up again tonight thinking that if I continued to read, I could finish this book and get all the way through the next book I want to read (it’s only a few hundred pages) before noon….. and seriously considering it. …

(at this point in typing this up, I decided I needed more but didn’t know what to say, so I thought for a while)

We’re going to Bay City to see fireworks tomorrow… we as in my mom’s side of the family, including Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Ann, Uncle Ron, Carment, Autmn, David, and Kevin. I’m anticipating it to be quite a bit of fun for some reason, though in the past it has seemed really boring. Usually the adults talk and the conversation just barely is interesting enough to not ignore completely, so I’ve never been able to do a bunch of reading while waiting for darkness to fall (we always go at like 5pm, which is kind of ridiculous considering fireworks don’t start until quite a few hours after that).

… and of course mom and dad will probably have Megan drive there, now that she has her permit ( i know, it’s weird that she can drive now)… so they’ll be telling her how to drive and ruining my concentration for reading on the way there and back 😦

I think I’ll try listening to some shakuhachi music. See if it helps me to relax enough to sleep. I’ll finish my book tomorrow, there’s no need to completely wreck my sleep scheedule by reading until dawn.

Good night all

The origins of the ‘Free Men’ of Arrakis

July 3, 2009

This isn’t actually about the origins of them, but I’m on the last book of a prequel trilogy to Dune. Lot’s of reading, and it’s been great.

Grandma is home from the hospital, she actually has been for quite some time. She’s not walking around too much yet, but she has started the therapy sessions.

I’ll be going to see Charlie again soon. It’ll be so nice to see him, long distance relationships are really tough…. It’ll be even better when we’re both back in Mt. Pleasant.

I think the summer will be going be much faster soon:

in 6 days i’m seeing charlie for 3 days

a week home, then vassar band camp

a day home, then Yale band camp (hopefully)

maybe less than a day home, then Port Huron Band camp

then about 4 days home and moving into the apartment

then another couple days and CMU band camp

I figured out last night that i only need to take 16 hours a semester for the 4 semesters. Or I could take 17-18 credits per semester, take 6 credits in the summer and have a philosophy minor too… which i’m strongly considering.

hiccups

June 14, 2009

Grandma’s surgery was fine, a little bit longer than it should have been, but still fine. Aunt Ann and I drove back Friday night and since then I got pretty sick. I have a horrible sore throat and it gets a ton worse when i try to swallow. I’ve been to the doctor and he gave me some antibiotics.

Last I knew, Grandma was capable of walking very short distances, though she is still in quite a bit of pain. Mom and Dad are driving down Tuesday (Grandpa is coming back Monday) and staying through Friday or Saturday.

I couldn’t fall asleep last night because I had hiccups from about 9:30 to 2:00. I’ve been really bored the last few days, and nothing sounds very interesting at all 😦  I just want to be back with the people at college again.

June 11, 2009

So driving down with aunt ann wasn’t too bad. I only stalled the car twice, once getting out of my driveway and once in downtown toldeo.

Grandma’s surgery starts tomorrow morning, so i’m going to bed early.
